About me

I started my career in educational publishing, working as an editor and then a publisher on print and digital resources for secondary schools, primarily in Humanities subjects. I then moved into qualifications: I was the Product Manager for Edexcel GCSE and A level History during the last reforms, and went on to manage a wider portfolio of Humanities qualifications. My last full-time role was in HE, managing a suite of online resources and courseware for higher technical qualifications.

In 2021, I decided to embark on a new adventure: I wanted to pursue a digital role in the museum sector. I left the company I’d been with for 15 years and signed up as a full-time student on an MA in Digital Media. I also started volunteering with the Old Operating Theatre Museum as a Website Support Volunteer.

On the MA course, I have taken modules in Web Design, Interaction Design, Games and Gamification, Digital Storytelling, Principles of Digital Media, and Digital Project Management; and my dissertation focuses on the feasibility of ‘OpenGLAM’ for small museums.

My own subject background is in Classics, particularly early Greek literature. I have retained a lifelong interest in ancient history, broadening out my knowledge from Greece and Rome to the wider ancient world. I enjoy learning ancient languages: I studied Sanskrit to IGCSE level in evening classes, I have dabbled in Egyptian hieroglyphs and Old Persian, and I am trying to summon up the courage to tackle my book on Babylonian. I am also fascinated by the Victorians, the history of London, and the history of medicine and surgery. I love reading historical fiction, visiting museums, listening to history and language podcasts, and attending talks by interesting and clever people.
